So earlier today I did some recording of my playing--working on some song ideas.
I had idea for three different guitar sounds--one clean, one clean with Auto Wah and one with some gain/distortion.
They all sounded great by themselves, but he Autowah one did not mix with the others at all.
So either I get rid of that one or get rid of the other two.
So for now I am getting rid of the one with autowah.
I tired it real low in the background, panned hard to one side--and sometimes it sounded good, but most of the time, it did not.
But it also gives me ideas of other things to try with the riff.
I also worked on some bass & lead work ideas. The melody I know in my head, but will be adding later.
So there is value in having a way to record yourself.
And value in not being to attached to every idea that sounds cool on its own.

What I often do is an idea will come into my head while watching TV. I grab a guitar and record something, whether lyrics or guitar stuff on my iphone to pick up later.
Currently have 2 little recordings of guitar riffs & chords that I may turn into songs.
I thinks it's often better to keep initial stuff simple until the idea blossoms and then transfer it of a proper recording

I don't really like tinkering with things. I record when we are contracted to play virtually but not much else. Although I really should change that as we desperately need a CD

I will be re-listenign to the stuff I recorded tomorrow & seeing what I like about it--it's a song in progress so I'm open to change.
