That's cheating Ha, I had to look that one up. And that's how you learn. That's how I learned. Hound Dog Taylor is a tragic figure in some ways--but wow--did he play with a lot of energy & feeling. He had a saying that I won't quote word for word, but will paraphrase. He said something like people will comment on how he wasn't the best player (using a certain word) but he made it sound good. And he did make it sound good.

Here's someone I've gotten into more recently- [br I listened to that, the licks he was playing sounded like a slowed down version of Stevie rays licks to me. I thought it was great.

I find this guy's playing incredible.
Good to see some younger guys playing blues (He's about to turn 22)
And this one of my personal highlights on the Netflix Luke Cage series (Along with Charles Bradley, Sharon Jones & Gary Clark Jr)

Oops I forgot to post this video to go with my last comment:
mentioning luke Cage makes more sense if I post this.
the show had many scenes in a club--and both seasons had variety of bands, singes, etc. The highlights for me are the ones I mentioned.

here's a buddy of mine. he once said that I should move to Austin, Texas. I didn't, but he did and did pretty well for himself. www.joerichardsonexpress.comhe played this one for not long after he wrote it. I remember thinking, "where did this come from ?" 30 years later, I heard it on a radio station up here in Minnesota.

From what I hear, Austin is very cosmopolitan.

From what I hear, Austin is very cosmopolitan. it is now. it was in the early 80s when he moved there(and that's when I would have moved there). he worked out of the same studio as SVR. he once told me that SRV even opened for him once. he said that Stevie was a real nice guy until he got into the drugs. back in 2008, the City of Austin had a "Joe Richardson Day" for his contribution to the Austin music scene.

Sometimes those who don't always play the blues do some fun stuff...
This song did have an impact on me when I heard it well after the fact, back in my college days.

One guy I really liked back when I was starting to get into blues and also influenced me was Otis Rush. This is probably he is best known song--or one version of it anyway.

If you have any sort of Boogie in your Blues, then there's a good chance that this guy had some effect (Even if indirectly) on you:

So while the playing isn't an influence--I do like seeing stuff like this re-interpretation. I like to do the same thing, and seeing others do it well inspires me.

Sometimes I want a high energy blues--maybe some will consider this Blues-rock--to me it's just blues.
This is someone I've really only been aware of for a couple of years or so.

I can't get that link to work
I love slide playing, not too good at it myself--but if I could combine the slide playing of Blind Willie Johnson, Elmore James & Johnny Winter--that would be cool But it won't sound like them.
