Some final observations before flying back to the US through Germany tomorrow. We were told we had to get covid tests, which was totally expected. Unfortunately they cost €30 each but it was pretty fast in the testing center and they gave us signed certificates, etc.
We'll see how this whole thing plays out- it is very ironic that the US has these testing requirements with Europe, considering the US had something like 114,000 new cases a couple days ago and the Czech Republic had something like 130. But what do I know...

Huh? Corona aside, I certainly wouldn't rule out retiring at least part time in Europe, spending 50% of the year here and 50% there. Germany or Austria would of course be the easiest because I speak the language. The Czech Republic would be much more difficult because I can only speak very rudimentary Czech and I'm not sure exactly how well foreigners would be tolerated there long term. That said I am probably about a million dollars short of being able to do so because in either country I would not be eligible for their public pension system so any calculations of income/ wealth needed for retirement elsewhere would need to include the assumption that there is no pension included.

Well some final observations from the trip yesterday.
We flew from Prague to Frankfurt and then to Newark, NJ. Nobody in any place asked or wanted to see vaccine cards, although there was a worthless attestation form that we had to fill out in the Czech Republic that stated we tested negative for covid. They said the form was for the USA but nobody in the USA asked to see it. That said, we were asked several times to produce documentation of our negative test results, which is a big contrast from flying there where the regulations stated we needed to prove negative testing, but nobody actually asked for the documentation. Hopefully this info is useful to my wife and daughter, who are still over there for another week or so.
Frankly I am glad to be done with the patchwork covid regulations in Europe, although now I have to deal with them in the US...
