I take them off of the bottles of olive oil that my wife uses. Exactly the same and they are free! I have heard of people getting them cheap at hardware stores as well They work on most guitars

Well nobody until you did.... My first thought as well Actually Fender has rubber washers of the same sort which I use on my bass a a couple of guitars They work great And I have never seen Grolsch beer around here (and I am not much of a beer drinker these days) Grolsch is pretty common here. My wife likes those bottles to make and bottle kombucha. Very traditional german style, although i think grolsch is dutch?

I'm actually curious to hear if Bill tried the doweling trick and how it went! I wound up using the toothpick trick, so far so good!!

Only extra virgin olive oil... Only the best.... I once heard a nutritionist say that technically olive oil is fruit juice.

Just saw Ernie Ball branded rubber washers at a store the other day. Look the same as the Fender ones.

Got a 335 2 weeks ago and wondering about the strap botton at the neck; it looks like the strap could come off there quite easily but I heard that those beer washer things don't work well if the trap botton is in that location same as an SG.

I've owned a 63 Gibson EB3 bass that had the front strap button attached to the heel of the neck. I've never tried the rubber washer thing, but I successfully used a set of Dunlop Straploks on it. The lock hardware on the front position needs to be mounted inside-out for it to work well, but that strap won't work well with other guitars after you've done that.
I've seen an installation of a Dunlop Dual-Design Straplock flush-mounted into the heel of a 335-style guitar. Looks nice, and it lets the strap sit tighter to the body because the strap-knob isn't protruding.

Just because we're talking strap buttons in general, I'll throw this into the mix....I've used the Dunlop Dual-design locks on a lot of my guitars. Here's a work in progress...My Hotrod Duosonic s few years ago...and you can see the Dunlop lock flush-mounted into the end of the body. Not a reversible mod, so you need to be sure it's right for you before you get out the Forstner bits.

I've had too many bad experiences on stage where a strap worked itself out of the button to not use straplocks anymore... I've never heard of that brand but they look pretty good

I've been using the Italia straps for a few years- great straps and near indestructible, but not fancy at all. But I am not a very fancy guy.

The downfall I've seen with many of the custom-produced high quality straps is that they seem to be made with a thicker gauge of leather than many commercial straps. I'm sure it represents an effort to provide a premium quality product but it sure makes it damn near impossible to install strap locks.

Before I install strap locks on mine I literally compress them with large C clamps for several hours and immediately put the strap locks on with a ratchet. Otherwise they are too thick

I've got larger strap knobs on one guitar--and some old Gibson Posi Locks on my Iceman--which are a variation of larger strap knobs I guess.

I use diamond-shaped 'straplocks' for my 335, similar to those old Gibson Posi-Locks. One of the newer guitar accessory companies makes something close.
Because of the way the guitar sluffs away from the body (same as with SGs), I find they work the best at not letting the strap slip off. The larger, multi-piece strap locks like the Schallers are too large and the guitar doesn't lay nice in the case anymore. I do use them on a LP I have.

I found that the Schaller strap locks use a smaller diameter screw (probably metric). I had to use the original Fender screw the first time I bought a pair. After that, I started using toothpicks and wood glue in the hole. I’d let it dry for a day and then I would install the strap locks with the Schaller screws Ditto for me
