Just checking that out.
As I mentioned elsewhere I didn't get digital software as I'd need a better computer to handle what I'd want it to do--and also portability is a factor.
But I get the advantages and features of most digital recording software.
I got a Tascam DP-008 8 Track Digital Portastudio about 8 years ago
I can format song files to use with digital software if I want to do that
But it is light, very portable--will work with batteries or adapter (The store included one free for me, although it isn't normally included.)
It is also intuitive for me--mostly.
I'd like the model above with sliders--but mostly this would be song demos for fun, or just recording things for fun or to listen back to & play along with.
I've recorded direct, which is okay for some stuff, with the built in mic (Not that great for anything other than spoken word) and I got a couple of mins.
An ART M-Two mic (It needs power, but he Tascam provides phantom power) and a Shure SV-100 (A cheap mic, but it does work for some stuff)
So had fun with it today and also was able to make some progress on some song ideas.

Years ago I was using Audacity freeware on my computer and an M-Audio interface. It was nice as I could add as many tracks as I wanted.
I now have a Zoom R8;Digital recorder but I haven’t used it for a while. I’ve been thinking of starting up again with this pandemic turning us into hermits.

It had been too long since I recorded anything. I hope to do it more often. And I want to go through what I do have recorded and see if any of it sparks any ideas, or maybe something I can add to. Or anything I could complete.

I use the following: PC - An Apple Mac Mini with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of hard disk
Recording Software - Logic Pro X 10.6.1
Audio Interface - Focusrite Clarett 2Pre USB
Microphone - Rode NT1A I plug guitars direct into the Focusrite, not bothering with trying to mic up an amp. Record guitars with a clean setting and add any effects, such as chorus or echo later. Similar with vocals, I record with a classic or natural setting and add any effects if required. Not autotune

I have a 12 channel Tascam recorder (with the sliders) that I bought several years ago, messed around with and it wound up in a cabinet. It is a good unit but it is a fairly steep learning curve that I probably don't have the patience to deal with.
So for recordings here's the signal chain: individual SM-57's for each instrument -> Mackie 12 channel mixer -> Scarlett Clarett -> Lenovo i5 laptop.
I'm not sure what audio software my son uses to tweak it.

We used it a few times- probably not as much as I should

I used to use an Akai EIE Pro which was great until Akai stopped supporting it for a new upgrade of the Apple sofwtare. Still have it packed up in case they ever do support it.

Prior to the Focusrite I had a Shure audio interface, which was poorly designed and eventually failed right before a gig. Although that unit was quite old...

At least they could somewhat carry a tune--and actually they both had songs where they did that very well

At least they could somewhat carry a tune--and actually they both had songs where they did that very well Bob is a great songwriter, but for me well over 90% of his songs are better sung by others. My point is that he does it.
I'm beginning to think the art of singing is finding the right key. My songs that the vocals are reasonable seem to be in G, whereas in A it's a struggle

Maybe that's one reason I like instrumentals. (Actually though I have heard songs with great intros that just fell apart when the vocals came in)

Still don't like him
On another matter, I wish those people analysing guitarists/vocalists/cooks etc. would put their own video in the pip rather than the subject.
It's not about them, it's the thing they are analysing. They seem more interested in seeing their face than what they are doing.

You don't have to like him.
But I do.
Seen him live more than once--when he was in different style phases as well.
Always a good show.

Well actually it IS about them- that's the problem! She's certainly much more interested in promoting herself than promoting HIM!

This bloke looks at different people and all I can see is his face and not enough of the people. I did pip for when Henry Spinetti played with us and kept the large part of the screen on Henry and we were in a small band
Being topical, this is how he saw Neil Young

or at least don't show the announcer's face while the musician is playing. Watching him nod and smile while he's listening to Neil Young doesn't add anything...

I used a Focusrite 2i4 from the DI out of my amp to the Focusrite. My DAW is Reaper, MIC Rode NT1A, GXL2200, and or a Cheap Pyle. I also use a Behringer Ultra-G DI for my other amp.

She’s a voice teacher promoting her services like many on YouTube She’s actually quite subtle compared to many of them It allows her to give a sample of her knowledge & style and to have some fun I really don’t get your reaction You are certainly welcome to your opinion on it & are not obligated to watch videos like that I enjoy them

Especially on that guitarist one where the chap often talks about how the person is composing the solo and you can't see because he has half of the screen. With pip, you can set the parameters of how big/small the pictures can be.
As for being obligated to watch them. I don't because it puts me off.
