Not that I was there, but apparently the Punic Wars finally ended
The Third Punic War, the last of three between Rome and Carthage, came to an end this day in 146 BC, culminating in the final destruction of Carthage, the enslavement of its people, and Roman dominance over the Mediterranean.

I have to vote bad- I can't stand Facebook I use it more to post band stuff, so it's useful for that over here I have a band Facebook site too but I intensely dislike everything about it so I almost never post.

Yeah, I guess I am liking the destruction of Carthage--or maybe just the end of a war.

On this day in 1952 King George VI of Great Britain and Northern Ireland died in his sleep at the royal estate at Sandringham. Princess Elizabeth, the oldest of the king’s two daughters and next in line to succeed him, was crowned Queen Elizabeth II on June 2, 1953, at age 27. She is currently the longest reigning monarch in the World. Sure that goes down well with you colonials

Apparently in 1783 the Great Siege of Gibraltar launched by France and Spain against the British colony during American War of Independence is lifted after 3 years and 7 months. Those pesky Europeans tried to capture Gibraltar when we were busy losing against the Colonials. In 1894 The Cripple Creek miners' strike, led by the Western Federation of Miners, began in Cripple Creek, Colorado. In 1994 Howard Stern stopped a would-be jumper on the George Washington Bridge

Apparently there were two 'notable' deaths on Feb 2 Sid Vicious died in 1979 & Philip Seymour Hoffman died in 2014. Both from drug overdoses Talk about one extreme and the other, they both die of overdoses yet Hoffman had everything, Sid died with almost nothing.....sad on both counts. Anyhow, on this day in 1569 King Philip 2nd forms inquisition in South America.

February 09:
1969: A giant new jet airplane -- 231 feet long, weighing 735,000 pounds, and capable of carrying up to 490 passengers -- makes its maiden flight. Before long, the Boeing 747 has made jet flight a commonplace of daily life for millions of travelers.
1966: The Vietnam-era bull market peaks, buoyed by defense spending and rising inflation, as the Dow Jones Industrial Average closes the day at 995.15 -- a level it will not reach again until October 11, 1982.
1585: The Frankfurt Stock Exchange (Frankfurter Wertpapierborse) is established.

Feb 10th 1967 - The Beatles recorded the orchestral build-up for the middle and end of 'A Day in the Life'. At the Beatles' request, the orchestra members arrived in full evening dress along with novelty items. One violinist wore a red clown's nose, while another, a fake gorilla's paw on his bow hand. Others were wearing funny hats and other assorted novelties. The recording was filmed for a possible 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' television special which was ultimately abandoned. Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Mike Nesmith from The Monkees and Donovan also attended the session.

On February 10, 1996, after three hours, world chess champion Garry Kasparov loses the first game of a six-game match against Deep Blue, an IBM computer capable of evaluating 200 million moves per second. Man was ultimately victorious over machine, however, as Kasparov bested Deep Blue in the match with three wins and two ties and took home the $400,000 prize. An estimated 6 million people worldwide followed the action on the internet.
