Pictures of the leather laces on the handles of bass amps. Here's my Fender Rumble 40 And my Traynor TBM10 Just because dB had asked to see them. Don't have one of my Garnet Stencil showing the laces, at this time at least.

What are the laces for? Must have missed that thread. They're laces from straps--a number of years ago I had one of these laces & didn't need to use it, but didn't want to chuck it out--so I wound it through the handle of my Garnet Stencil bass amp. I kept doing that over time, and when I got the Traynor, I had to add a lace on there as well. So of course, as soon as I got the Rumble--ditto So if I get any more leather straps with leather laces--I will add them to the handles of my bass amps. Just something I did as a lark, and kept doing.

I heard that brown leather laces provide a nice brown sound on guitar amps. Never tried them myself.

Most people I know are not musicians--so family, friends, others I associate with in many contexts.
they don't get a lot of what I say--because it's from a musician's viewpoint.
But that's okay--I sometimes don't get what they're talking about.
One example I believe I have referenced here before is going to a concert and talking boat what sort of guitars, basses & amps we saw on stage.

I hear Corinthian leather is the choice for tube amps Since Corinthian Leather is no different than other leather, it just makes the word “leather” sound better. So maybe it will make SS amps sound like tube amps! I’m gonna have to find an old Chrysler Cordoba and cut a few strips for my Boss Katana

Maybe we should cruise the junkyards so we can buy some old seat upholstery- I hear reliced Corinthian leather is even better

I just edited my post. Corinthian leather was just a marketing term to make Chrysler’s leather seats sound “sexy”.. no such thing as real Corinthian leather.

Hey some singers wrap scarves on their mic stands (Not just Steven Tyler--but he is one) Me? I wrap leather to my bass map handles.
We all have our quirks.

I'm curious- how often do fellow players notice and comment on it? Not often actually, but that was never the point I do know musicians who aren’t into talking gear Some of them will change the topic, or grunt, or shrug, or say either “I don’t know” or “I don’t care” Others notice but nod knowingly Some ask about it or comment But they usually know where the the leather came from

Not often actually Now that I know about it I would be looking for it, but otherwise I'm not sure I would notice the straps in passing. If I did I'd probably think it was to make your amp identifiable from a similar amp that someone else has

If I did I'd probably think it was to make your amp identifiable from a similar amp that someone else has It does have the benefit of identifiability Although I have never gone to play with others where someone else brought the same amp as I did Or even brought one I had at home

The only one of my amps what's it was really likely for someone else to have the same one is my Peavey C30. Your fender is also pretty common

So, I'm going to play dumb....(It's one of those things I do well)....
Are the leather laces only to differentiate your amp from somebody else's, or would you actually tie the leather laces to the ends of your guitar strap to move the amplifier? I can actually see it making it a hell of a lot easier to haul amps up and down stairs.

To put it another way--everything has to be somewhere--so the laces are on my bass amp handles. No other purpose or reason. Although not a bass amp, the cab I use for my Orange Micro Dark is from a Fender G-Dec amp (Not the Junior though--a bigger one) It has a strap attached to the cab--so I could carry it that way if I wished to.

What a conundrum. I've got some nice leather one I could use on my tube guitar amps. But what to with the Kemper? I suppose I'd have to use pleather? Funny thing is, the 'handle' on the Kemper head is a leather strap ..........
