Damn, I think you guys must have started my G.A.S. up again. Ever since I posted about it, I haven't been able to stop thinking about that red Hofner 459.

Maybe I should make a deal with myself....I won't look for the Hofner until I sell another piece of gear. You never know, that might even give me an incentive to finish the Telecaster so I can get it sold.

Second place may be one of those high end prs guitars, those are gorgeous guitars, played one at guitar center once, pretty nice. A couple of months ago (pre-lockdown / stay at home) I was at a local Long and McQuade and noticed a PRS SE Hollowbody II. I fell in love with the McCarty Hollowbody many years ago but I knew I’d never be able to afford it. Anyway, i looked at this SE Hollowbody II and decided to try it out. It sounded great and played just as well as any guitar I’ve ever owned. The action was nice and low and the pickups were nice and clear. What’s nice is that it’s not very heavy...maybe 6.5 to 7 lbs and to cap things off, it was gorgeous. I mentioned it to my wife as we were driving home (she didn’t see it as she was in a different store) and she said “if you want it you should buy it ....as a retirement gift”! Well that shocked the heck out of me! I told her that I would wait until we start playing again and think about it. I’d also like to try the mahogany version of the guitar too. Maple top and mahogany top

The light weight is a really attractive feature in a guitar. I'm personally not a PRS fan, but they are well made and fairly pretty. I'd do it now....Don't give her a chance to change her mind, lol.

Now that's a good little lady! It is rare my wife ever tells me to buy anything. Although she was on my case to get rid of my old PA system because of the space it took up....

I couldn't help myself....I had to take a look online. There's one vendor on eBay that's obviously smoking something pretty good.....He claims his product is a Limited Edition and his Buy It Now price is AU 1999.99 (about CA 1963.00) plus shipping AU 799.99...about CA 785.00). I'm guessing he's not selling many at that price.
A lot of the big online music store list the product but say there's no stock and they don't know when they'll be getting any. One on Reverb, in sunburst, at CA 601.00, but I found a few red ones starting just under 500.00 at other American retailers. I'm figuring it'll probably be about 600.00 including shipping by the time I'm in a position to buy. I read a few reviews...This guitar is spoken of very highly for something that's Asian made.

$600 sounds about right- something to look forward to!

I did something dangerous today that I haven't done for a while....went into the pawnshop with lots of money in the bank and my debit card in my pocket. They didn't have as many guitars as usual, but there was a nice assortment of different stuff rather than the usual assortment of Strat copies. The owner showed me an Epiphone Sheraton.... The first one I've ever seen in real life. He asked me if I wanted to play it, but I declined - Partly because I consider myself a hack guitarist and he's a really fine player, bur also, I didn't want to do anything that might slow me down from having enough dough for the Hofner 459. I did see one thing that looked really interesting....A Peavey Power Slide Lap Steel. Not something I want particularly, but one of the few really original ideas I've seen in a while.

Maybe it's an either or. When I went looking for a picture, I heard it described that way in some places, and there are pictures of people holding it like a guitar and also flat. Maybe it depends if you're a Jeff Healey-style player. I can't imagine that body shape being great for either approach. I just thought it was a different design approach.

I looked closer and 3 things tell me it is a lap steel.
1- that bridge has no compensation or adjustment for intonation 2- the neck is very wide and blocky 3- look at the nut- it looks like simply a bar that the strings are laying on, not something grooved where action would matter

My guess is that the same things that make 12 string guitars challenging will hold true here. I'm thinking that string spacing will be tighter for one thing. Maybe a little higher effort because you're dealing with pressing down two strings rather than one. When I look at that video it looks like 4 strings tripled not 6 doubled or am I seeing wrong? Yes, four courses of three strings each. So it would be like a 12 string & then some.

These are lapsteels that you can stand & play with a strap as well. I've seen them & tried them. They have some horrible reviews & people that really like them. Most see them as an entry-level type way to get a lap steel.

I think if you want to get an entry level lap steel, there are much better choices at a fraction of the cost...

I think if you want to get an entry level lap steel, there are much better choices at a fraction of the cost... Just not as flashy perhaps--or with the standing option. But yeah, having played these I would say there are definitely better options, unless you get one so cheap they're practically giving it away--and even then--forgo the flash--and get something more stable, etc.
